there are these horses near where i live. there are 3. two are ponies and they other one is a 16h TB he is and 8 year old gelding. The ponies weight is normal but the TB is extremly scary! you can see his ribs and his hips are hollowed in. People from my barn have all ready called the humane society and the NCC but they dont really know anything about horses. They went to the peoples house and questioned them, but they said that the horse is under vet watch, but if he was under vet watch he would be so much more heavier. I have driven by him now for a couple of months and his weight hasnt changed at all. The humane society didnt even check the peoples barn to see if they had hay for them. because there is barley any grass in their paddock. the horse is for sale but i dont know, for how much. i have no money and can’t buy him. People from my barn are going to go ask how much he is and try and convince to sell him to us. But our barn owner doesnt want to spend the money on him.
she will take him if he is free, what should we do? he is an extremley friendly horse and you can tell he just wants to be loved. Someone from my barn brought hay and dumped it over the fence for them and the skinny gelding wouldnt let the horses come and eat the hay because he was starving. Speaking of the fence the fence isnt very safe either its metal and the horses feet get stuck in it. i feel soo bad for them please help me! i need advice?
i live in ottawa ontario, and i dont know of any organizations that can help

My horse has built up quite a large grass belly, if I give him more hay will he eat less grass? He is in a pasture and I don’t want to pen him up to get the weight off, so i’m hoping for another alternative.
You see that is the thing we trail ride everyday, and he breaks into a serious sweat everytime. He just will not stop eating. I refuse to stall him I have seen what it does to horses. I guess I guess I will look into the muzzle didn’t want to have to do that either, but oh well……

I have an Arabian (20y/o gelding) coming to my stable tomorrow. He is about 16 hand and weighs approximately 800 pounds now. No health issues other than weight. I have taken this horse in as part of a rescue. So he will be mine and I am responsible for making him as healthy as possible. I have never done anything like this before. My current plan is to put him on a high protein diet.

Alfalfa cubes??
Hay-as much as he wants
Grain? I need suggestions.

Also, if anyone has any name suggestions for this guy, he is a light dapple gray. Very kind personality, a bit scared though. He belonged to a family who couldn’t afford to feed him, then to a sale barn, survived a brush with a slaughter house and made his way to a rescue group who contacted me! No one knows his original name- sad, cause he’s about 20 years old.
FYI- I am a stable owner, I’ve just never dealt with a horse that is this underweight. I have already called the vet but spoke with someone who was clueless and am awaiting a call back.
The vet came.. he said give the horse as much hay as he wants. 1 lb of grain the 1st week and increase each week by a pound. Give the horse 1 pound of alfalfa pellets soaked in water. Also put 1 oz of vegetable oil on grain.

I just bought a MFT Love her to bits. So dont say sell her because that aint going to happen! lol. At this show their were all these cool things for event. There is this HUGE field there in the front where there is obstacle courses like blocks of wood you have to go up on bridges you have to cross and jumps all over and tarps on the ground and weaving through stuff. And there is a area to just flat out gallop. I also meet a friend. We hung out the wholeeeee day. I got her o gsallop for the first time and she loved it! of course i was like maybe 50 or 75 feet infront of her.(because she has a icelandic horse). And then the second event that i went in was panty hows race we ahd to do alllll this stuff but we can NOT let go to the tights and e ended up winning. It was hard. When for the tigh breaker we had to join with the other pairs and my horse started EATING THE TIGHTS!!! LOL. They also had other events. But They have a track there to run on and tolt. Whats weird is my horse tolts now. Because my friends horse moldy and mine were going the same pace and she was watching him the whole time. All of a sudden I am like I think She is FOxtrotting. Then she counted out loud 1 2 3 4 No she’s tolting! Is she tolting now! yep! how about now. Yeah!!!!!! Now? YES!!!!!!!!!! So will she do this for good or only around icelandic horses. And I really like this barn they have everything their. And the barn is like brand new with these satlls with slots coming to the hall way where they get hay and automatic water and stuff like that. And they have everything there!!! Also My mare has a “little” friend now. She likes to snuggle with moldy. SHHHHH. Thats a secret. Lol. I r4eally like it hear but they only except icelandi horses. But they will allow you to trail ride with her every week. But I dont have a trrailer. See my problem? if you know of any trailers for sale in WI under 5000. Thanks!
sorry it’s long but i was in awwww.

I know that you can get free hay,but usually there is something wrong with it,and i don’t want to pay like thousands a month,so if you know how to get good quality hay for cheap, that would be GREAT!

I bought a weanling colt at our local sale barn this past weekend. He is really emaciated. He was eating hay at the barn but when I brought him home today I turned him out in the pasture and he wouldn’t eat any grass. I’m going to call the vet in the morning. Does anyone know of anything that might help him? I hope he’s not to far gone and it’s just to late for him.

I would really appreciate friendly and helpful comments on this
as I am trying to a good thing and help this poor baby.
add: I don’t know anything about him. I’m guessing on his age. He’s pretty small and all skin and bones. His eyes are big and bright though.
Thanks for all your great help!
Virga, the websites were really helpful, thank you.

I moved to kansas city from florida in the spring and now that its snowing like crazy i have been feeding round rolls. But ALL the round rolls that are for sale have been outside and exposed to the elements, and people claim this as horse hay? Even round rolls of alfalfa clover etc are all out side since bailed. So what do I feed my horses? Is it safe to feed it? Or should I just throw square bales?

i found an add, for a local place near us selling horses, and i wanted to know if it was a good deal (it sounded like one to me, but you never know)

3 horses for sale, a quarter/arab 9yrs old, a quarter horse12 years old, and a quarter/staddlebred 9 years old. plus 50 bales of hay and all the tack that goes with the horses for $3,000.
would you pay that price? or what would you offer?
we’re looking for trail horses for our family. thanks!
i wouldnt buy a horse less i had a vet check it, and for the hay, i’d check that first with my trainer. i sorta get that the horses might not be the greatest horses out there(for jumping/showing/in general), but we’re just using them for trail horses and fun.

I mean city and state wise. When I mean the best place, I mean the most stable sale prices of feed, the most horse enthusiasts, cheapest (yet nice) land, etc. Just a great, cheap place to own horses where other people do, too.

Right now I’m leaning towards the Bristow, OK area. I looked up properties, and you can buy 9 acres with a nice house (like 4 beds, 3 baths and not out-dated country looking) that’s perfect for owning horses for $125,000! I’m not sure about how much hay is, but the grass is great and you could definitely not feed hay during the summer! The horse market is good and there are a good amount of horse properties around which means horse enthusiasts!

What about you? And list reasons like I just did =)
